How to Make a Crackle Ball

Dear Crazy Aaron,

My boss gave me a tin of red thinking putty (for creativity), and it's pretty neat stuff!

I read your description for making crackling sounds, and would like to offer an alternative method that increases likelihood of crackles and requires a bit less muscle to execute.

Step 1: Knead the Thinking Putty to remove all traces of previous putty activities.

Step 2: Flatten the Thinking Putty into a sheet by finger-thumb pressing. You can stretch the sheet out by pulling but only after exhausting the pressing option. (Be careful not to let it fold onto itself, or develop any holes!) Your goal is a large surface area with a uniform thickness.

Step 3: Fold gently in half several times in alternating directions until the Thinking Putty is practically in a ball shape.

Step 4: Crumple and crush to make crackles that will thrill your ears and annoy the heck out of people around you!

Have Fun!
